Olabisi Bello, an undergraduate student in the BEDD lab, won the 3rd place award at the WE22 Collegiate Poster & Rapid Fire Competitions of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
About the SWE competition:
- The Rapid Fire Competition is a 5-6 minute speaking presentation, designed to emphasize the ability to concisely and dynamically present technical information
- The abstract submission deadline was June 15, 2022
- Forty finalists were selected and provided funding support to attend the SWE Annual Conference taking place on October 20-22, 2022, in Houston, Texas
- There were 10 finalists in each category: Undergraduate Collegiate Poster, Graduate Collegiate Poster, * Undergraduate Collegiate Rapid Fire *, and Graduate Collegiate Rapid Fire
On Saturday, October 23, 2022, Olabisi gave a presentation titled “Are the bacteria still alive? Investigating the viability and growth kinetics of secondary cultures of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 in complex and minimal media“. Her investigation was part of a bioremediation project supported by an NSF DEB Award#1832140 to Dr. Patrick Ymele-Leki and the DOW Scholars Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program at Howard University.
