On November 2024, Howard University’s Dow Scholars Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program took biology, chemistry, computer science, and chemical engineering students on a tour of Dow Chemical‘s Bristol, Pennsylvania facility. The group, led by SURE program directors Patrick Ymele-Leki, Ph.D., chair of chemical engineering, and Steven Cummings, assistant professor of chemistry, had the chance to engage in a variety of enriching activities.

Hosted by Dow’s Juan Callejas, Ph.D., R&D leader, and Sylvia Hanna, Ph.D., Senior Research Specialist, the scholars attended presentations from leading scientists, engaged in a career panel, and met with their corporate mentors. They also toured specialized labs, gaining valuable insights into materials science research. The visit ended with the students presenting their own research, further strengthening their professional connections.
The Dow SURE program provides opportunities to Howard University students from multiple disciplines to participate in research, foster innovation, and prepare for successful careers in science and engineering.
